Protestors Threaten Action at CARICOM Meetings

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Protestors lined Bay Street once again, Wednesday, in protest of what they’re calling an immigration crisis. They’re also threatening to take their demonstrations to the upcoming CARICOM meetings set for New Providence later this month.

Lincoln Bain, leader of the Coalition of Independents, leading yet another protest centered on the immigration issue this morning.

Last week Immigration Minister Keith Bell announced stiffer requirements for Haitians applying for permits noting that approvals will be considered on a case-by-case basis and granted in the most exceptional circumstances.

But that’s not enough for Bain, who says the government must close the door.

Recently the COI leader was seen on video questioning Haitian nationals about their immigration status. He has gone on record to defend his actions.

Despite warnings from authorities, Bain says it’s a fight he plans to continue.

But he says their issue isn’t only with Haitians illegally residing in the country.
