PM Responds to GBPA Statement

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The saga continues between the nations leader and the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) following the prime minister’s initial comments about the port authority during his budget communication on Wednesday.

On Thursday the GBPA responded to the prime minister comments that there must be change in the GBPA governance model but GBPA officials say that decisive action requires collaboration and partnership with government. 

The prime minister says however that Grand Bahama is not living up to its full potential and promise.

The GBPA’s statement noted that decisive action by government should include extending the real property tax exemption to all licensees.

The prime minister is responding to that recommendation.

Currently there are several major projects in the pipeline for the island such as the re-development of the Grand Bahama International Airport as well as a new healthcare facility which the prime minister says are underway because of his government.

GBPA President Ian Rolle has said in a recent Our News interview that he doesn’t think people fully understand the role and function of the port authority and in the statement on Thursday it was also noted that there is $1.5 billion dollars of new investment well underway for the island.

The prime minister also responded to that.
