That was a young Marguerite Pindling, preparing for independence 50 years ago.
She recalls the excitement that spread around the country.
Her role, support the man who was about to become prime minister of an Independent Bahamas.
No sooner had the celebrations ended, then it was time to build country.
Looking back over the 50 years the 91-year-old former governor general summed it up like this.
