BBF Elections To Be Held This Weekend

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Basketball Federation’s elections are scheduled for this weekend. Incumbent President Eugene Horton is up for reelection against First Vice President Quentin Hall.

Horton took over after Mario Bowleg was elected to office and named sports minister in 2021.  

Over the past two years he has overseen the transformation of the men’s national team into a regional powerhouse that has attracted NBA talent not only on the court but in the coaching rank as well, allowing the team to win its first ever FIBA Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament.

He’ll be up for election against Hall, a former standout at Gonzaga, overseas and for the national team before he became jr. National team head coach.

Hall and his slate of executives are running on a pledge to expand youth basketball in The Bahamas and improve the national basketball program.

Track and Field

Shaunae Miller-Uibo came first in the 400m at the Diamond League event in Zurich, Switzerland. 

She finished in a time of 51.83 seconds. 

This was her first win in an international meet since the birth of her son back in April.

Look for her times to fall as she continues to work her way back.

Meanwhile, Anthonique Strachan placed sixth in the 200m in 22.65. Shericka Jackson won that race in 21.82.

Devynne Charlton also ran, coming 7th in the 100m hurdles. 

NFL

Mike Strachan has resigned to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. 

Strachan flashed his immense physical gifts on the practice field but he wasn’t able to get much preseason action. 

Despite this, the Colts must have liked what they saw from strachan because they kept him around. 

The Colts only have four receivers on their active roster. If Strachan can stay healthy and continue to work on his craft, it’s not unlikely that he’ll end up suiting up on Sundays.
