The Countdown is on to the World Athletics Relays

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With 194 days to go, the best in Bahamian track and field talent will soon come head to head for an opportunity to compete in the World Athletic Relays.

From May 3rd through 5th, 2024, hundreds from around the world will come to New Providence for the high-level track and field event.

The Bahamas won its first gold medal at the World Relays back in 2017 and this time government, the BAAA’s and World Relays organizing committee are joining forces to ensure that The Bahamas comes out on top once again.

Relay coordinator, David Charlton, says they’ve already started reaching out to athletes to ensure their availability to compete in the relays, but he says they’re taking it a step further.

Now while all Bahamian athletes are eligible to participate, Charlton says the top eight Bahamian athletes per event based on their performance last year, will automatically make up the relay pool.

Charlton expressing confidence that The Bahamas will advance in the World Relays and be well on its way to prepare for the Olympics adding that the plan is to compete in the mens’ 4×100, men’s 4×400 and the mixed relay.

And as for whether or not The Bahamas plans to host the sporting event for years to come, Youth, Sports and Culture Minister Mario Bowleg says the intention is to host the World relays for multiple years to come.
