A Veteran’s View At the Remembrance Day Service

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – When we last spoke to Bahamian World War II Veteran, Comrade Vernon Pinder, he couldn’t help but smile when thinking about the upcoming Remembrance Day Service.

That service was held on Sunday, November 12th, and was preceded by a parade procession that led to Christ Church Cathedral.

And our very own Comrade Pinder was the guest of honor.

He arrived in style, thanks to the Bahamas Antique Club, in a 1953 Ford Coastline and sat front row for the Remembrance Sunday Service.

In Grand Bahama, where our only other living Bahamian veteran resides, the Divya Lady Nights Templar Council 1643 visited 95-year-old Comrade Henry Kellman, and the veteran’s widow Muriel Thompson, presenting them with gift baskets.

And although remembrance season is over, the work of caring for our country’s veterans and their widows is a year-round job for the British Legion Bahamas Branch.
