NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former National Insurance Minister Shane Gibson says government is making the right move in increasing the NIB contribution rate by 1.5%.

Gibson served as Minister of Labour and national insurance and the public service under the 2012 christie administration. He describes the move as a tax, not a contribution.

But how did we get here? The former parliamentarian says it’s a result of successive governments “kicking the can down the road”.

Gibson has been vocal about an increase in contribution for some time. However, many in the political arena including the opposition slammed the increase accusing the Davis administration of being confused over NIB. Gibson, did not hold back on the notion.
