HAITI – In under three weeks, over 53,000 Haitians have fled the violence-plagued capital, with most escaping gang warfare, says a recent un report.

Over 60% seek refuge in Haiti’s rural south, straining resources, warns un spokesperson Stephane Dujarric. Already, the south shelters 116,000 fleeing prior turmoil.

Gangs, unleashing chaos since February, caused over 1,500 deaths and 17,000 homeless.
