Dean Withdraws From The Transfer Portal

U.S.A. – The NCAA postseason means a busy time for transactions and Bahamians have been active in the transfer portal.

In less than 24 hours, Fordham Rams sophomore Romad Dean has gone back and forth with his decision on entering the portal.

Reports emerged Monday night, that Dean initially entered his name into the portal, but by Tuesday morning his name was withdrawn, meaning he will be on the Rams roster for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign.

Dean averaged 4.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for the Rams who finished 13-20 last season in the a-10

Deyton Albury and AJ Storr are still in the transfer portal and continue to draw interest from high major D1 programmes.

Storr has also entered his name into the NBA draft evaluation process but will maintain his eligibility.

Minor League Baseball

Chavez Young’s AAA debut got off to a quick start for the Nashville Sounds in the international league.

The Milwaukee Brewers prospect opened the season hitting .364 in the three-game series against the Saint Paul Saints.

He began the series 2-3 at the plate in a 6-5 loss and concluded it 2-4 with 2 RBI in an 8-1 win.

Young signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016 and was traded to the Pirates in 2023. He has also played professionally in Puerto Rico and Australia.

Women’s Chinese Basketball Association

Jonquel Jones continues to dominate the WNBA offseason and is on her way to the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association Finals.

JJ finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists to lead Inner Mongolia to an 83-66 win over Jiangsu. They closed out the series two games to none and will face Sechwan in the finals.

Back in the U.S., Jones and her New York Liberty begin their chase toward a repeat trip to the WNBA finals in May.

Jones signed a two-year deal to return to the Liberty in January.

Overseas Basketball

Continuing with Bahamians hoopers, veteran forward Kentwan Smith has carried a productive 2024 campaign into the postseason.

Smith and his BC Luela club have advanced to the semifinals of the Swedish Basketball League with a 3-game sweep over Nasho in the quarterfinals.

Smith averaged just over 13 points and 7 rebounds per game in the series.

Luela will face top-seeded Norrpoking in the semifinals.

On the season, Smith averaged 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from three-point range.
