UNITED STATES – In a landmark move, the justice department has proposed reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug, acknowledging its medical benefits and lower potential for abuse compared to substances like heroin and lsd.

While not legalizing recreational use, the plan shifts marijuana from schedule I to schedule iii, a step prompted by President Biden’s call for a review in 2022.

Biden, who has also pardoned thousands for marijuana possession, hailed the decision as a step towards rectifying past injustices.
