Department Of Social Services Launches Inaugural Disability Empowerment Month
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Ministry of Social Services, Information, and Broadcasting is launching its inaugural Disability Empowerment Month, which will feature an array of activities and events throughout June.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Ministry of Social Services, Information, and Broadcasting is launching its inaugural Disability Empowerment Month, which will feature an array of activities and events throughout June.
Minister of Social Services, Information, and Broadcasting, Myles Laroda, says the events are crucial steps in the ministry’s ongoing mission to raise awareness of the often-overlooked challenges the disabled community face.
The month starts with a pinning ceremony for young disability advocates from various schools who have pledged to champion the vulnerable members of our community.
Miss Universe Abaco, Chelsea Cooper, who recently won 3rd runner up in the Miss Universe Bahamas pageant was a part of the ceremony, continuing her work as a disability advocate. She says she is inspired by the commitment of the student advocates.
Laroda emphasizes that while the ministry continually strives to make a real difference in the reality disabled people face, it’s important to continually educate and sensitize future generations about the impact their actions can have on those around them.
