KENYA – Police in Kenya opened fire on demonstrators attempting to storm Kenya’s parliament Tuesday, resulting in at least five deaths and dozens of injuries.

The chaos erupted as lawmakers inside passed legislation to raise taxes, igniting sections of the parliament building.

Protesters, who overwhelmed and chased away police, are opposing tax increases amid a severe cost-of-living crisis.

They are also calling for President William Ruto to resign.
