CDEMA Organizes Relief Efforts For Countries Hit By Beryl

CARICOM member states are coming to the aid of countries still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Beryl. The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency outlining the extent of the damage and relief coordination.

After outlining severe damage to Grenada and St. Vincent and The Grenadines, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency has quickly launched coordinating response efforts to assist the affected islands.

CDEMA Executive Director Elizabeth Riley says initial assessments have given them direction on how to focus response efforts.

The Caribbean community is banning together to assist, but the CDEMA Executive Director stressed that while we all may want to help, it’s important that it’s coordinated effectively. As a result, countries have released preferred ways to donate.

As for Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Hurricane Beryl passed through those islands leaving behind a death toll still being calculated and a trail of devastation.
Beryl hit those islands as a Category 4 hurricane packing 120 mph winds and is expected to hit Jamaica today.

But as recovery efforts begin, global organizations have already stepped in, a relief transshipment port has been activated in Barbados.
