Shania Adderley Will Not Make the Bahamas’ Olympic Team

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Back in May Bahamians were introduced to a 16-year-old Grand Bahamian as she came back to propel the country to qualify for the mixed relays at the Paris Olympics.

On May 4 and 5th, The Bahamas welcomed the World Relays back after a length hiatus, to its shores and dubbed it from Paradise to Paris.

On May 4, the mixed relay team was made up of Steven Gardiner, Alonzo Russell, Shania Adderley and Shaunae Miller-Uibo but placed fourth in their heat.

Fast-forward to May 5, the team had another chance to qualify and did so with a stellar anchor performance from 16-year-old Shania Adderley.

Then on July 10, Our News obtained a letter addressed to the Bahamas Olympic Committee from the Grand Bahama Athletic Association about Shania possibly being left on the team.

On Monday, BAAA’s President Drumeco Archer confirmed the same.

The top three includes Javonya Valcourt, Quincy Penn and Lacarthea Cooper.

He also gave this example, using The Bahamas’ senior men’s basketball team as a reference, but Archer says he’s willing to give up his accreditation for Shania to attend, although it still won’t be as an Olympian.

Now Shania’s mother reached out to Our News saying no offer has been made to her or Shania about going to Paris.
