PM Getting Medical Treatment For Sciatica In The U.S.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It was a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister shortly before 1 p.m. this afternoon that confirmed Prime Minister Philip Davis is seeking treatment for sciatica in the United States. Sciatica is a condition that can cause severe pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg.

As Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Michael Darville tells us, Davis has been suffering from the condition for months.

Research tells us sciatica occurs when there is pressure on or damage to the sciatic nerve. It starts in the lower back and can sometimes run down the back of each leg. Common causes of sciatica include a slipped or herniated disk, spinal stenosis, pelvic injury or fracture, and tumors.

Pain from sciatica can vary. It can feel like mild tingling, a dull ache, or a burning sensation, and in some cases, it can be severe enough to make a person unable to move.

The Health and Wellness Minister assures that the Prime Minister is doing well and in good spirits.

With Parliament now on summer recess, Dr. Darville reasons this is the best time to seek treatment. We asked him what treatment could look like for Davis and if he could need a surgical procedure.
