Seven Year Sentence for Man Who Torched Car

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 23-year-old man who torched a Volkswagen Jetta that he was “tired of seeing” has been jailed for seven years.

Trae Bastian pleaded guilty to a charge of use of explosive matter with intent to cause damage when he appeared before Senior Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson.

The charge stems from a fire at Virginia Street on January 18, 2024 that destroyed a car that belonged to David Thompson.

Bastian was previously sentenced to 24 months in prison for causing a 2021 fire at Bethel Baptist Church.
