WORLDWIDE – A U.S. judge ruled Monday that google violated antitrust law by spending billions to create an illegal monopoly as the world’s default search engine.

The landmark decision marks a significant victory for federal authorities challenging big tech’s dominance.

The ruling paves the way for a second trial to determine remedies, possibly including a breakup of Alphabet, google’s parent company.

Alphabet says it plans to appeal the decision.
