SBDC Awards More Than $600K To 83 Women Entrepreneurs

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Nearly 100 Bahamian women from Grand Bahama to Inagua have become first-time grant recipients, thanks to the Small Business Development Centre’s (SBDC) 2024 Women Entrepreneurs Initiative. The SBDC’s Deputy Executive Director, Phyllice Bethel, noted that over half a million dollars in grants pushes the SBDC into a new milestone in their support of women-owned businesses.

Over six hundred thousand dollars in grants will be going to eighty-three Bahamian businesswomen, thanks to the Small Business Development Centre’s 2024 Women Entrepreneurs Initiative. Grant recipient Tishka Moss, founder of Traveling Tots Rentals, shared that her experience as a mother inspired her business idea. This grant money will now allow her to get a much-needed delivery vehicle.

Over ninety-eight thousand dollars of those grants went to fourteen businesswomen in Grand Bahama. Lisa Turnquest, one of them, owns a home-based company called Captain Corn, founded in 2018. After going through Hurricane Dorian and the pandemic in Grand Bahama, she says this grant will be key in fueling her company’s comeback. Turnquest expressed excitement about the support and representation for businesswomen in the Family Islands.
