Sailing

Inspired by a sailing legacy that has spanned generations, Joshua Higgins  has a lofty goal of returning Bahamian sailing to the Olympic level.

The 21-year old Harbour Island native, detailed how his lineage of sloop sailing prepared him for the transition to his current Olympic dream.

He recently returned from the 2024 ILCA UK Open & National Championships where he finished 11th out of a group of 60 of the top sailors in the United Kingdom.

He also placed fifth in his age category with three top ten finishes across nine rounds

NFL

It was a difficult final week of cuts for Bahamian players looking to make NFL rosters.

Both veteran wide receiver Mike Strachan and rookie defensive tackle Denzel Daxon were released by their respective teams as clubs trimmed their rosters to 53 ahead of the regular season.

Strachan was waived by the rebuilding Carolina Panthers after recent struggles in the preseason.

Strachan played 54 preseason snaps for the panthers but finished with just one catch for seven yards. He appeared in four games for Carolina last season, catching one 45-yard pass on three targets.

Drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2021, Strachan has six career grabs for 130 yards.

Daxon, the rookie defensive tackle, signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in april.

He appeared in three preseason games for the Cowboys and finished with seven tackles and a half sack.
