Jonquel Jones Blocks Five Shots In Win

NEW YORK, U.S.A. – Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty celebrated West Indian night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with their league leading 28th win of the season.

Jones finished with five blocks and eight rebounds – both team highs – to go along with 15 points in the Liberty’s 77-70 over the Seattle Storm Thursday night to sweep the season series.

Jones five rejections set her single-game high for blocks in a Liberty uniform and she also became the fifth player in Liberty franchise history to record at least five blocks and three three-pointers in a single game. 

An efficient night on both ends of the floor, Jones shot 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc.

New York recorded at least 15 assists for the team’s 105th consecutive game, the longest streak in WNBA history, and led by jones – they also finished with a season high 10 blocks.

At 28-6, the 2024 Liberty are off to the team’s best start through 34 games in franchise history.

A 17-2 Liberty run from the late third quarter to the early fourth was ultimately the deciding factor, leading New York to their 8th win in their last 10 games.

Currently the league’s number one overall seed, they have six games remaining in the regular season.

New York will continue their home-stand against the Las Vegas aces on Sunday at 4pm.

New York Mets first base coach Antoan Richardson shared in that excitement and wore a pair of the sneakers this week during his team’s series against the Boston Red Sox.

Baseball

Chad Delancey concluded his second season in the Dominican Summer league with a championship title.

Delancey and his Boston Red Sox red defeated the Los Angeles Angels’ affiliate, 6-0, in game 3 of the best-of-3 finals.

At 42-14, the Boston affiliate won the DSL West by 4 1/2 games and amassed more victories than any other club on the circuit.

Delancey an 18-year-old, outfielder, hit .305 this season with an .832 ops, 12 RBI and 12 runs.
