Culture Minister: Both Valley Boys Factions Getting A-Group Funding

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Youth, Sports and Culture Minister Mario Bowleg says the government is not involved in what category a Junkanoo group is placed in Wednesday following the announcement made by the Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence Tuesday night.
He said he was more concerned over what was best for Junkanoo, doubling down on what he said on Sunday following a meeting where there was no resolution between the two factions.
The JCNP said in a statement that Brian Adderley’s World Famous Valley Boys would be competing in the A-category while Trevor Davis’ Way Forward Valley Boys was placed in the F-category.
I spoke with JCNP Chairman Dion Miller over the phone Wednesday morning and asked him what went into the decision.
He told me Davis’ group missed the deadline to register.
But will the group have to register under a new name should they register next year?
He said the JCNP does not get into the names of groups.
“As I’ve stated in the past, we’ve had examples where we’ve had Colors and we’ve had Colors Entertainment,” Miller said. “[WE have} the orginal Congos, and we’ve got the Fox Hill Congos.”
The other question many are asking centers on seed funding. Bowleg, says the Davis Administration decided to give both fractions equal funding.
We reached out to the leaders of both factions but they declined to comment on the issue.
