Father of 11 Among Two Killed After Plane Makes Water Landing off New Providence

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Russell family is in disbelief more than 24 hours after getting the shocking and devastating news that a pillar in their family and the community at large tragically lost his life.

Eighty-six-year-old Allen Russell was among the six passengers onboard that Piper Aztec PA-23-250 aircraft that made a ditch landing eight miles off of New Providence Thursday.

One of his sons Nicholas Russell described his father as nice, quiet, and humble. He was also ingrained in the community.

Russell says for years his father worked two jobs. He was employed at the water and sewerage corporation for years but he was also a taxi driver for many years up until his passing.

The grieving son said he was at work when the incident happened and was told to come to his sister’s house.

According to Russell, the loss is more difficult for him as he’s still reeling from the death of his mother three years ago.

But Russell says he didn’t even know his dad was traveling to New Providence Thursday.

Allen was among two that died in the incident. At last report, the other four passengers were in stable condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Russell recounts the last conversation with his dad, noting he had no idea it would be his last. He remembers sharing a plate of food with him, a testament to his father’s kind nature
