NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas continues to position itself as a hub of sports tourism in the Caribbean and seeks to develop more avenues to bring the world, and its prestigious sporting events to our shores.

Prime Minister Philip Davis appeared on the Bowl Season podcast to discuss the development of the Sports in Paradise initiative.

A busy fall calendar for sports tourism are highlighted by several NCAA Division I events including Baha Mar Hoops and the Battle 4 Atlantis on the basketball court and the Bahamas Bowl on the football field.

WNBA

The road to the 2024 WNBA title will have to go through Brooklyn. 

Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty will have home court advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Liberty clinched the league’s top overall seed for the second time in franchise history with an 87-71 win over the Washington Mystics Tuesday night.

Jones finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

The Liberty last claimed the number one seed in 2015.

The playoff picture is nearly set, with more than half of the seeds clinched already clinched.

As the top seed, New York will begin its postseason run on Sunday when they host the eighth seed.

The remainder of the postseason matchups will be determined when the regular season concludes Thursday night.

Golf

Derek Jeter’s turn 2 foundation will return to The Bahamas with another edition of its celebrity golf weekend.

The organization will host a series of events September 19-22, featuring two days of competitive golf at Baha Mar’s Royal Blue Golf course and concludes with a gala at the Grand Hyatt Convention Center. 

As part of its partnership with Baha Mar, the Turn 2 Foundation will contribute $50,000 to the Baha Mar Resort Foundation. 

Baha Mar has also partnered with the Bahamas Baseball Association to host a community baseball camp on Saturday and will donate $10,000 to local baseball development.
