NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Free National Movement (FNM) is calling the Progressive Liberal Party’s (PLP) time in office a failure as PLP supporters celebrated their three-year anniversary last week. The opposition has been vocal in its critique. Our Joshua Williams reports.

NIB, Bahamas Power and Light (BPL), Grand Bahama, and the economy are just some of the areas where opposition leader Michael Pintard says the Davis administration has fallen short after three years in power. His comments followed the PLP’s celebration of its election victory in 2021.

Speaking at a press conference this week, Pintard claimed the public’s trust in the government has been breached.

Michael Pintard – Leader, Free National Movement
“Our nation is staggering under the weight of ineptitude and incompetence. Most importantly, a government that is incoherent in the way it is rolling out national development. The prime minister of our country has proven to be a dabbler—tinkering around the edges—not serious or focused as a leader, not intentional about governing our country.”

Pintard also suggested that there may be internal conflicts within the Davis-led cabinet, pointing to miscommunication in the public domain.

Michael Pintard – Leader, Free National Movement
“Conflicting statements by the minister of foreign affairs and the prime minister, conflicting statements on procurement by the FS, the minister of foreign affairs, and the prime minister—they continue to flip-flop and contradict each other.”

The issue of Bahamas Power and Light is another challenge the government has pledged to address through its energy reform program.

Michael Pintard – Leader, Free National Movement
“We have yet to see the deal the government has signed with those they have determined will take over BPL. We would like a complete and transparent disclosure of what the arrangement is on the power generation side. Lay the documents on the transmission and distribution side, explain to us who will build the pipeline from Clifton to Blue Hills.”

The FNM leader also took time to outline what a government led by him would look like.

Michael Pintard – Leader, Free National Movement
“Our children and young people, along with the elders, will see a massive effort by the administration to re-inspire their confidence in our nation and help them achieve their hopes, dreams, and aspirations.”
