Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander:

“We sat and we realized that in Englerston, you are seeing the homicide continue to climb.”

And that’s exactly why Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander says the newly launched “Clear, Hold, and Build” initiative will start in the Englerston community.

Government’s crime-fighting strategy, which was rolled out on Friday, aims to disrupt criminal networks, specifically targeting gang leaders and members.

Fernander shared a crime breakdown for the area, emphasizing the need for action.

Fernander says the initiative will zero in on key hotspots, including Lincoln Boulevard, Florida Court, Miami Street, Key West Street, and Washington Street.

Police say they have also identified stash houses used to hide guns and drugs in the area.

As for how long the focus will remain on Englerston before shifting to other parts of new providence officials did not specify.

And with homicides nearing triple digits, we asked the Police Commissioner what sets this initiative apart from previous efforts.
