Bahamas Roadmasters Compete at Detroit Marathon

DETROIT, U.S.A. – Long distance veteran runner Michael Cunningham participated in the Detroit Free Press International Half marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday.

DETROIT, U.S.A. – Long distance veteran runner Michael Cunningham participated in the Detroit Free Press International Half marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday.

Cunningham left his imprint on the streets of Detroit and Canada, by placing 3rd in his age category beating out more than 100 runners in this category.

This was his second fastest half marathon.

The route started in Detroit, running over a bridge to Canada and returning through a one mile underwater tunnel.

Michael stated that it was great weather for long distance running.  

There were eleven other runners from the Bahamas Roadmasters Running Club; four participated in the full marathon (26.2 miles) and seven in the half. 

Leilei Lightbourne, a member of the Bahamas Roadmasters Running Club, ran the full marathon, with a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon.

She set a new personal best record, placing 4th in her age group, and missing the third position by one second.

Bahamas Roadmasters is getting ready to stage their 12th Bahamas Half marathon on November 17th.
