Five Bahamians, Two Colombians Arraigned for Acklins Drug Bust

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Seven men are behind bars after facing a slew of charges in connection to a drug haul worth over $15 million in Acklins.

Two Colombian nationals Julio Casadiego and John Pena appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux along with Bahamians Mickey Albert, Jerry Pierre, Chesley Armaly, Robert McSweeney and Demario Ferguson.

They faced charges of conspiracy to import dangerous drugs and abetment to import dangerous drugs.

The accused were not required to plead to the charges because they will be tried in the Supreme Court.

The men return to court on April 19 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.

Police arrested the men in Long Island on December 6 after the seizure of 762 kilos (1,982) pounds of cocaine valued at $15,240,000 and 25 pounds of hydroponic marijuana valued at $50,000.

Police said the drugs were found in a plane that crash-landed in Spring Point, Acklins around 2am.
