MIDDLE EAST – After over a year of war, Israel and Hamas have struck a ceasefire deal following months of negotiation, with Qatar playing a key mediation role. The agreement, announced live by Qatar’s Prime Minister, comes as hundreds of thousands of displaced Gazans prepare to return home.

The conflict escalated after Hamas’s attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which left 1,200 dead and 251 hostages taken. Israel’s response has resulted in over 46,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry. Currently, 94 hostages remain in Hamas custody, with 34 presumed dead.
