NASSAU , THE BAHAMAS – Andrew Johnson is one of several candidates running in the upcoming general election in the Freetown constituency. He sat down with our Sasha Lightbourne for a candid conversation about why he is running and why his political ambition is not just with Freetown.

He was born and raised in the Kemp Road community and in fact the property where his constituency office now stands, belonged to his father and grandfather.

For Andrew Johnson, running to become the next member of parliament for Freetown is personal.

He said that he is deeply rooted in the community, and is determined to see change.

Andrew Johnson – Independent Candidate, Freetown

“There have been many people representing the kemp road area which comprise of Freetown whether its St Thomas More or Montague or Shirley and I look and I have not seen any changes in this constituency and thats why I am so focused on bringing this constituency and this community to back to when I was a young boy walking these streets”

Johnson will face a crowded field.

Including incumbent and Progressive Liberal Party candidate, Wayne Munroe, the Free National Movement’s, Lincoln Deal, and the Coalition of Independents’, Olivia Ingraham-Griffin.

Andrew Johnson – Independent Candidate, Freetown

“Ive always been doing things for the community and people in the community but now I’ve decided to go into frontline politics and stand up and be recognized”

He said his top three priorities for Freetown are cleaning up the community, curbing crime, and addressing illegal immigration.

Andrew Johnson – Independent Candidate, Freetown

“The garbage derelict vehicles, these abandoned and dilapidated homes mash them down, clear them down, take them down the government really need to focus on that. If a lot of the young fellas does not have any where to go and anything to do top occupy their time they will be idle the reason I know that is that I was one of those young guys. There are alot of good young men in this community; I don’t care who you are, if the distractions are there for you will fold. I don’t want to be misunderstood I’m not saying that that is a problem but if we don’t make sure that the brothers and sisters of other countries are registered or have the proper documents we will be in some problems in the future”

Andrew Johnson – Independent Candidate, Freetown

“Im not staying to be an independent; my goal is to run this country in the near future that is my goal; thats a bold assertion; man listen what I’ve seen so far I’m not impressed – so you want to be Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas – I want to run this country at some point in the future whatever that means”
