NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Christian Council is speaking out and condemning the sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl.

President Bishop Delton Fernander says people who commit these offenses, must be dealt with to the full extent of the law.

Fernander says the council stands against rape culture that seems to be developing in the country.

Police tell the tale of how the nine-year-old was playing with friends on Saturday afternoon outside her Lazaretto Road home when a man driving a white Nissan Skyline beckoned to her to get inside the car.

The child complied and was taken to an unknown location where she was threatened and sexually assaulted.

Fernander says he’s outraged with the matter. He says the church is prepared to work hand in hand with authorities.

Council Vice President Pastor Mario Moxey says the incident is a reminder of the need for everyone to work together.
