ARGENTINA – The Bahamas National Basketball Team recorded what was easily the biggest win in the country’s history yesterday when they beat Argentina 101-98.

The boys from the 242 withstood the onslaught from the 4th ranked team in the world, a team with collective decades’ worth of experience in big time international play and a raucous home crowd to come back from an 18-point deficit in the first quarter to put Argentina away.

Eric Gordon provided clutch shot-making when The Bahamas needed it, leading the way with 24 points and a monster dunk to put The Bahamas up at the end of the first half.

Buddy Hield was his usual bucket-getting self-scoring 22 points and grabbing six rebounds,

DeAndre Ayton had 22 points, grabbing 15 rebounds, and swatting 3 shots while Travis Munnings added another 20 points making clutch baskets to get The Bahamas in the game when they were down.

With Panama withdrawn from the tournament, The Bahamas will head straight to the semifinal round.

Swimming

The Goodwill Games Bahamas Swim Team had an early start on Wednesday leaving from Lynden Pindling International Airport on the national flag carrier to Norman Manley Airport in Kingston, Jamaica.

Once the team landed, and grabbed a bite to eat, it was time to  get to work. The team held its first practice at the University of the West Indies and then again early this morning at Jamaica’s aquatic center.

We asked Head Coach Dellan Brown why it’s so important for a team of this size to travel to a competition two days in advance.

Bahamas Aquatics Secretary General Georgette Albury and Undersecretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Montez Williams also travelled with the team. They expressed their desire to see Team Bahamas bring home the gold.
