CHINA – With no clear resolution in sight to the global trade war between world superpowers at least for now, the stand-off between the United States and China appears to be worsening.

China increased its tariffs on U.S. imports to 125% on Friday, hitting back against U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to hike duties on Chinese goods to 145%.

With many already feeling the affects in the United States and other global markets, Bahamian student, Bashar Issacs, studying Mandarin in China shares her insider’s view.

“As far as tariffs go…we are the exporters so I am more concerned for my fellow Bahamians about how they’re gonna feel the blowback seeing the U.S will catch the brunt of it…,” Isaacs says.

China is known for its socialistic ideals, with a huge influence on what’s presented in the media.

Isaacs believes this is perhaps the reason why most Chinese are not discussing the matter at home.

While her fellow schoolmates and friends are not worried, Isaacs says as an international student she’s keeping an eye on global trends.
