Bahamian Teams Medal At Babe Ruth Caribbean Championships

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bahamian teams concluded the Babe Ruth Caribbean Championships  with medal winning performances on the Independence holiday.

In the under 16 division Team Bahamas won bronze with a 4-3 win over MJBL USA, following a two hour rain delay at the Andre Rodgers National Stadium.

The Bahamas concluded the tournament with a 3-2 record. They opened with 14-3 win over cayman, followed by a 7-3 loss to mjbl vision, a 6-5 win over USA South and a 9-2 loss to Venezuela in the playoff rounds.

Venezuela went on the win the gold medal with a 4-3 win over MJBL vision.

In the under 12 division, hosted at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex, The Bahamas claimed the silver medal after a 3-0 loss to Aruba. 

It was their lone loss of the event to finish the tournament with a 5-1 record. 

They had a 6-2 win over Puerto Rico, 13-1 win over the Freedom Farm host team, 28-0 over Jamaica, 4-3 win in their first matchup against Aruba and 12-0 shutout over the Cayman Islands.

In the third place game, freedom farm host lost 2-1 to Puerto Rico. 

The team of 10u players finished the tournament 2-4.

Basketball

Travis Munnings put on such a show at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Spain, they decided they wanted him to stick around.

Munnings is set to join Urbas Fuenlabrada Madrid  of the Leb Gold League – the second division in Spain.

The six year pro spent the last two seasons in the French Pro B League.

He concluded the 2024 campaign with Pau Eb Orthez, where he averaged 12.1ppg, 6.0rpg, 2.2apg, and 1.1spg in 18 games. He was named to the eurobasket.com all-French prob third team. 

In the previous season he played with boulazac basket.

Munnings has also played professionally in Portugal, and had a stint in the NBA Summer League with the Golden State Warriors.

The Olympic Qualifying tournament in Valencia, Spain, Munnings averaged 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

WNBA

Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty now have sole possession of first place in the WNBA standings. 

Jones finished with eight points and 11 rebounds in the Liberty’s 71-68 win over the second place Connecticut Sun Wednesday afternoon at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

The Liberty improved to 18-4 the sun are one game behind at 17-5.

It was the Liberty’s sixth straight regular-season win over the Sun.

Jones is averaging 15.7 points and nine rebounds per game.

Despite not having her typical offensive production,  Jones limited MVP candidate Alyssa Thomas to just 3 points.

The Liberty look to keep their win streak alive tonight against the chicago sky.
