UNITED STATES – Minor league baseball is in full swing at various levels, and Bahamian players continue to make an early impact for their clubs in the first half of their respective seasons.

Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Kristian Robinson homered last night for his Amarillo Sod Poodles, but the team struggled offensively in an 8-2 loss to the Tulane Drillers. Robinson was in the leadoff spot and, on the third pitch of the at-bat, hit a line drive to left field for his sixth home run of the season. He is tied for the team lead in home runs and also leads the team in stolen bases with seven. Hitting .295, Robinson is third on the team with 18 RBI and has a 1.021 OPS.

Texas Rangers prospect Sebastian Walcott went 2-5 last night for the Frisco Roughriders in their 6-1 win over the San Antonio Missions. The 19-year-old has improved to No. 8 in Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list and third among shortstops after the first month of the season. He’s hitting .245 with eight extra-base hits and six steals in his first 26 games. His .726 OPS is the best of any teenager at the Double-A level this year.

Also in Double-A, Chicago Cubs prospect BJ Murray is in his second season with the Knoxville Smokies. He’s hitting .221 with five home runs, 13 RBI, four stolen bases, and a .794 OPS.

In Single-A, Miami Marlins prospect Ian Lewis is back on the field with the Jupiter Hammerheads. In 16 games, Lewis is hitting .200 with five RBI, four stolen bases, and one home run. The 22-year-old infielder was previously ranked as high as No. 9 in the Marlins organization before injuries and visa issues slowed his progress.

Also in Single-A, San Francisco Giants prospect Ryan Reckley is in his first season at this level with the San Jose Giants. Through 20 games, he has five RBI and six runs scored.

UB Men’s Soccer Team Misses Knockout Cup Advancement

The University of The Bahamas Men’s Soccer team missed their opportunity to advance to the Bahamas Men’s Soccer League Knockout Cup. The Mingoes lost 3-1 to the Western Warriors Titans in the second leg of the cup last weekend at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields. Andreas Cochinamogulos was the lone goal scorer for UB. The Titans won 8-2 on aggregate and advanced to the final, while UB now plays for third place.

Tomorrow night at 9:30 PM, UB faces a must-win league match against Dynamoes, their final match in league play. Following that, they will play the Insurance Management Bears for third place on Sunday, May 18, at 4:30 PM.

Adam Miller – Assistant Coach, UB Mingoes Soccer
“It was always an uphill battle, and because of that, we tried to work on certain tactics that will help us for the rest of the season. I think the guys played really well. I think they played professionally and they played hard. We tried to give some of the other guys who had gone out as much minutes this season, some play time, and they actually really showed out and showed well.”

Khai Rees Faces Setback at ITF M15 Heraklion

A month after making his pro debut, Khai Rees was back on the circuit at the latest edition of the ITF M15 Heraklion. In the qualifying round, the 17-year-old faced Jakub Novak of the Czech Republic. Rees lost the first set 3-6 and retired in the second set down four games to none. Novak advanced to the third round before being eliminated.

Rees made his debut in Crete, Greece, last month in another edition of the M15 Heraklion, a Futures-level two tournament for top prospects from around the world. He lost 6-0, 6-0 to Andrin Casanova of Switzerland, ranked No. 677 in the ATP Tour world rankings.

Rees, who trains at Axis Tennis Academy in Delray Beach, Florida, was given a wild card entry for his first pro tournament and was invited to return for his second appearance.
