U.S.A. – It was a quick turnaround for the high schoolers and a busy weekend for Bahamians at all levels, competing at 129th edition of the Penn Relays.
Javelin throwers highlighted the individual performances and a trio of Bahamians dominated the medal podium in the high school girls division.
Dior-Rae Scott of St.Augustine’s College took first place with her throw of 48.56m, followed by teammate Kamera Strachan at 46.74, and Taysha Stubbs of Queen’s College was third at 44.76m.
Also in the field, the Comets’ Annae Mackey, finished second in the shot put with a throw of 14.60m.
The top relay performance came from the SAC boys 4x100m team of Nijae McBride, Jahcario Wilson, Terrin Beckles and Eagan Neely finished second in the international final in 41.19 secs.
QC’s team of Everette Fraser, Ishmael Rolle, Daniel Strachan and Rohman Rolle, finished fifth in 41.85 seconds.
In the girls 4x100m international final, sac’s team of Khylee Wallace, Bayli Major, Madison moss and caitlyn Smith was fifth in 47.90 seconds.
Teams from St. John’s College and Sir Jack Hayward also competed in the 4x400m series but failed to advance Out of the prelims.
In the collegiate 4x100m, a pair of Bahamians led Georgia Southern to a new program record.
Shatalya Dorsett and Devine pParker led the eagles to a 44.19 secs time in the prelims, surpassing the previous record of 44.50 secs.
Kaiwan Culmer competed in the olympic development triple jump elite and finished second with a leap of 16.41m.
Sailing
The 69th National Family Island Regatta was a celebration of the nation’s national sport over the weekend in Georgetown, Exuma.
In class A – the top spot was taken by the Silent Partner out of Exuma, skippered by “Buzzy” Rolle.
In second place was the Tida wave and Ruff Justice was third.
In class B, the lonesome dove out of Abaco and skippered by Jeff Gaele took top honors followed by the Eudeva and Lady Sonia.
Skipper Elfred Kemp and Exuma’s h2o won a loaded class C field ahead of the Bull Reg and it ain’t right.
Skipper David Knowles and the Lady Annemarie out of Long Island won the top spot in class E. Mako finished second and Lady Kayla rounded out the top three.
MLB
The early season struggles for Jazz Chisholm Jr may be turning around both on and off the field.
Chisholm takes a four game hit streak into tonight’s series against the Baltimore Orioles.
In addition to the last four games, he also has hits in five of his last seven games and nine of his last fourteen.
On the season he has a .178 average with seven home runs, a .706 ops, 17 rbi and six stolen bases.
The MLB also announced that they dropped a one-game suspension against Chisholm, but an undisclosed fine would remain for his for his ejection and subsequent violation of the league’s social media policy.
Chisholm was initially suspended on April 18.
He argued a called third strike against the Tampa Bay Rays, was ejected from the game and immediately took to x to voice his displeasure with the call.
NBA
A shorthanded Golden State Warriors’ roster with an opportunity to take control of their first round series’ needed role players to step up – Buddy Hield did just that.
Hield scored 17, made five threes and added three steals in 29 minutes off the bench of the Warriors’ game three win over the houston rockets saturday night.
Keeping with the superhero theme established by teammate Jimmy Butler, Hield had an interesting take on his role.
The series continues with game four tonight at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
