NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prominent Christian leader and former co-chairman of the National Marijuana Commission Bishop Simeon Hall weighed in on The Bahamas Christian Council’s position that it only supports medicinal cannabis.

The compendium of groundbreaking legislation, which seeks to create a controlled system for cannabis use for medical and religious purposes, was passed in the Senate on Monday.

While Hall says he is pleased with the Christian Council’s decision, he believes attention needs to be placed elsewhere.

Hall has been vocal on the matter for years, serving on a number of boards, including the CARICOM Marijuana Commission.

The legislation will remove cannabis from the list of dangerous drugs and allow for the expungement of records for individuals convicted of possession of marijuana—30 grams or less—a move Hall says he passionately agrees with.

Most recently, during the 2024/2025 budget debate in the House of Assembly, former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis shared his views on the use of recreational cannabis.
