NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Androsia Christina Fernander – known as ‘Muffin’ to most Junkanooers – has been the chairwoman of One Family Junkanoo organization since 2018.

Today, she stands as the only woman to lead a Junkanoo group to victory on Bay Street – a feat made even more outstanding since the group won two straight parades this past Boxing and New Year’s Day as they celebrated their 30th anniversary.

Her junkanoo prowess aside, Muffin is also a champion in other arenas.

As a public servant since 2007, she helps shape legislation through the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

And while she does her best to find a balance between leading One Family and advancing the rights of disabled people, she says her work is fulfilling and brought her more awareness.

While Muffin’s tenure as leader has been successful, there have been challenges.

And while she says she never dreamed the king would mention her name, she is grateful and says it’s a testament to her growth.

Muffin encourages more women to come to the forefront and add their names to the list of women Junkanoo leaders.
