NASSAU, BAHAMAS – One out of every ten women with breast cancer will undergo a mastectomy. Cancer survivor and administrator of The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Erin Storr, says part of recovery is having a bra that caters to their health, comfort, and confidence. Storr says there’s one company that gives breast cancer patients and survivors exactly that.

“It happened to come out positive. I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer.”

Five years ago, Erin Storr was diagnosed with breast cancer, so she understands more than anyone the importance of having the right products to battle the disease.

That’s where Bahamas Medical and Surgical Supplies Limited comes in.

Storr, who is also the administrator of The Bahamas Cancer Society, says the company has been instrumental in helping supply the Cancer Society with what it needs to support cancer patients, including its line of mastectomy bras.

“I came here a couple months ago for a conference on these new bras, and they donated a new bra for me… and wonderful. It is wonderful for me.”

“The Cancer Society always buys their portacath kits and needles from here. But, you know… those who have had a mastectomy—and fortunately, I didn’t have one; I only had a lumpectomy—but those who have had a mastectomy, they have a lot of bras, very nice bras. Bras that don’t look like granny bras, but they’re very fashionable.”

Storr also praised their compression and drainage bras that help breast cancer patients after surgeries.

For more than a decade, Bahamas Medical and Surgical Supplies has offered the top brands for cancer care, including Amoena, a top mastectomy bra line.

Their shelves are also stocked with breast prostheses—artificial forms designed to replicate the size, shape, feel, and weight of a person’s breasts. Their staff is specially trained by vendors to help customers choose the right products.

Storr says having a store so well-stocked is essential.

“We really need to spread the word that Bahamas Medical Supplies have all your supplies needs.”

Storr is also encouraging women across the country to get their yearly mammograms because a procedure that lasts only a few minutes can make all the difference.
