HALIFAX, CANADA – The Ministry of Tourism is wrapping up a multi-city Canadian sales mission, which is a part of an annual global effort to reach potential holiday seekers.

However, this trip is essential, given the tremendous growth potential of this market at present.

Travel partners in the Canadian market got a full serving of Bahamian culture, vacation experiences, and a chance to connect one-on-one with hotel property representatives.

The Ministry of Tourism’s Global Sales Mission is on a three-city tour, promoting the 45 weekly flights from Canada to The Bahamas and showcasing what travelers can enjoy once they arrive.

Even hotel properties are getting their moment to shine with unique sales pitches.

Karen Smith – Director of Leisure Sales, BC
“It’s critical. We have a chance to meet with the agents one-on-one, in person, to give them our story, to talk to them about the destination and express the importance of that direct flight. We are thrilled that we have direct flights now.”

The meet-and-greet then transitions into an on-stage presentation, led by top tourism executives. Over dinner, attendees are given an “everything you need to know” download.

And just when they think the night can’t get any more vibrant, Junkanoo takes the stage, stealing the show.

Walden Young – Lead Trumpet Player, Chambers Junkanoo Group
“The rhythm of the beat, the sweet music, the colourfulness of the costumes, to give everybody a small idea of how we do it back home.”

But beyond culture and connections, these missions are also about growth opportunities.

Kerry Fountain – Executive Director, Out Island Promotion Board
“Bahamasair has to reach out to Air Canada to have what we call an interline agreement. That would allow a travel agent here in Halifax or Ottawa to book a ticket straight through, from Halifax to Long Island or any island Bahamasair serves, all on one seamless ticket.”

The show lands in Calgary, the third and final stop on this gruelling city-to-city tour.
The Ministry sees it as a prime opportunity to put more Canadian heads in beds, tapping into an emerging market just as the frigid winter months roll in,  and travelers start seeking warmer destinations.
