CARIFTA Track and Field Athletes Return to Grand Bahama

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – CARIFTA celebrations continued in Grand Bahama as several of the country’s elite junior athletes returned home following their second place finish in Grenada.

NBA

Deandre Ayton was a force in the Portland Trailblazers lineup in March and has continued that momentum this month.

Ayton notched his 28th double double Wednesday night in the Blazers’ 89-86 win over the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He shot 12-22 from the field, finished with a team high 24 points and 16 rebounds.

Through eight games in March, Ayton averaged 23.4 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. In two april games thus far he’s averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per game.

NCAA Baseball

Daunte Stuart has had an immediate impact on Memphis Tigers baseball and led the program to its biggest win of the season.

Stuart finished 3-4 with a run, an rbi and a stolen base in the Tigers’ 9-4 win over SEC powerhouse, Ole Miss.

The Tigers improved to 14-17 on the season.

Stuart now leads the american athletic conference with 14 doubles.

In 22 games he his hitting .328, with 4 home-runs, 25 rbi, and 33 runs.

WCBA Basketball

Jonquel Jones continues to dominate during Inner Mongolia’s playoff run in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association.

Jones finished with 34 points and 9 boards in her team’s 76-54 win over Jiangsu Wednesday night in game one of the semifinals.

Game two will be on April 6 as they look to close it out and advance to the finals.

Jones is averaging 28.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in the playoffs and Inner Mongolia has won by an average of over 20 points per game.

She was an all-star and also won the league’s International Player of the Year. 

Baseball

The Bahamas Baseball Association is once again on a national team talent search, this time in the 12u division.

12u national team tryouts will be hosted April 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th at the Andre Rodgers Baseball Stadium from 6-8 pm. 

All players are eligible but must be no older than 12 for the remainder of 2024.

The 12u team will travel to Dominican Republic to compete in the Caribbean Cup May 4-11.
