LIMA, PERU – The World Athletics U-20 Championships are underway and the first group of athletes for Team Bahamas carried the flag for Team Bahamas into competition.
Carlos Brown Jr. was the lone competitor to make it out of the prelims and advanced to tonight’s semifinal of the men’s 100m.
He finished third in heat five in 10.48 seconds and qualified as the 15th fastest time overall in the field of 24 semi-finalists.
Jeremiah Adderley finished eighth in heat three in 11.06 seconds and did not advance out of the first round.
In the women’s 100m, Shayann Demeritte finished third in heat seven in 12.19 seconds.
She was 42nd overall.
Action continues Wednesday for Team Bahamas in the opening session.
Taysha Stubbs is in the javelin qualification at 10am, Kei-Mahri hanna in the 400m hurdles heats at 10:38am, Zion Miller in the boys 400m heats at 1pm and Brendan Vanderpool in the men’s pole vault qualification at 5:05pm.

Their win streak came to an end last weekend but it took just a few days for Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty to get another one going.
Jones finished with 15 points, a game-high seven rebounds with two steals in the Liberty’s 84-70 win over the Phoenix Mercury to begin their road trip.
Jones shot 3-5 from three-point range and tied her single game high for three-pointers made as a member of the liberty.
New York held Phoenix to nine points in the first quarter for the lowest-scoring first quarter by a Liberty opponent since 2018.
New York is now 26-5 and despite the loss over the weekend, are still off to their best start through 31 games in team history.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. returned to lineup over the weekend, but Monday night was the real welcome that the yankee fanbase was waiting for.
Chisholm hit his 21st home run of the season in the yankees 5-2 win over the Washington Nationals Monday night in Washington dc.
It was one of three New York home runs on the night along with Gleyber Torres and Austin Wells.
The Yankees have now won five of their last six games.
With the Miami Marlins, Chisholm had 13 home runs in 101 games, he now has eight home runs in 18 games since he was traded to the Yankees in late July.
The three game road trip against the Nationals continues tonight and concludes on Wednesday.

The Bahamas Football Association returned from the Naples Elite Cup with one title and one top three finish.
The under 13 girls completed an undefeated run and claimed the championship trophy over the weekend in Naples, Florida.
They kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 win over San Carlos Park SC 13-u.
Paris Saunders scoring both goals before the game was cut short due to a thunderstorm.
In game two, they defeated San Carlos Park SC u-14, 6-1. Ameerah Ann Knowles scored four goals and Aria Saunders scored two goals.
In the championship game, they defeated San Carlos Park SC u-13 for a second time, 3-2.
Knowles and Saunders were the goal scorers for Team Bahamas.
The BFA’s u-13 boys finished in third place in their division.
