NASSAU , BAHAMAS – Here at Cable Bahamas, employees are sharing more than just workplace conversations today. They’re reflecting on the fathers who helped shape their character, values and outlook on life.

For Tate Bethel, one of OurTV’s cameramen, the most important role a father can play is simply being present.

Tate Bethel – Cameraman, Rev Media, CBL

“I’d say the greatest thing a father can do is offer his presence to the child. I feel like a child thrives more when he knows he has support from his father.”

And a father’s role can take many forms — provider, protector, mentor and friend.

But for the employees we spoke with at Cable Bahamas, the common thread was guidance.

Anton Francis, a NOC analyst at the company, says fathers help provide direction and prepare their children for life’s challenges.

Anton Francis – NOC Analyst, CBL

“He’s the guide. He’s the one who gives great direction. He’s the authoritative figure. He also provides that source of love. The mother has that soft love, but the father provides that directive love so a child can take on the world.”

The ladies are also joining in the conversation, with employees Katriel Moss and Lauren Campbell-Munnings sharing the impact their fathers have had on their lives.

Katriel Moss – Human Resources Dept., CBL

“I know with my father, I can call him at 3:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m., anytime, and he will drop whatever he’s doing, whether he’s in a meeting or wherever, and he’ll come and help me. So, just be a provider and be involved in your child’s life.”

Lauren Campbell-Munnings – Director, Engineering Dept., CBL

“At least for a female, a father should be a provider and show what you should expect from your significant other or future partner, whoever that may be. Your father’s level of providing should be the minimum you’re willing to accept, and it should always be better and more than that.”

Employee Rudolph Ferguson believes fathers play a critical role in helping young people stay focused and avoid negative influences.

Rudolph Ferguson – IT Dept., CBL

“I believe a father should be there to guide and protect. I know a lot of people who don’t have a dad, so it helps you stay out of foolish situations, I guess.”

And for father of two Ed Thompson, the values of honesty and hard work remain at the core of his parenting philosophy.

Ed Thompson – Finance Dept., CBL

“Especially if you’re dealing with young men, and even some young women now, they need to have a positive male figure in their life. That’s the key thing — providing a different kind of guidance on how to be a man or simply be a good person in general.”
