NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Berkshire Bahamas Farms was established in 2019 to provide the highest quality pork to Bahamians. In 2020, the farm expanded into egg production on a small scale.

Managing Director, Terrance Roberts, says that’s when he realized that free range chickens lay higher quality eggs than some of the store bought brands.

With that goal in mind, Roberts traveled to Florida, bringing back with him some 2,000 baby chicks, but unfortunately, he says there was a small tragedy once they made it to the farm.

At the time, only 1,200 chicks were at Berkshire while the remaining 500 were at another local farm.

The chicks are expected to reach the age of maturation between 18 and 24 weeks and Roberts says the goal is to eventually produce 1,000 eggs per day.

He explains why free range chickens produce higher quality eggs.

While local residents can purchase eggs from the farm, Roberts says the main focus is to supply local restaurants and hotels.
