SAN SALVADOR, BAHAMAS – Top Club Med official describes the situation on San Salvador as a “Work in progress” due to the ongoing need for essential services and improved conditions.

The issue became particularly urgent in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the hotel chain highlighted several challenges that led to its closure and delayed reopening.

Among the concerns – the property’s remoteness, insufficient healthcare infrastructure that could jeopardize the safety of guests and staff, and inadequate airlift options for its european clientele.

And although government has been notably supportive, Angeles Martinez, Club Med’s Regional HR Director for North America, says one critical need remains at the top of their list.

Club Med’s Columbus isle property is the lifeline of San Salvador’s economy and remains the major source of employment.

Speaking at a new industrial agreement signing, Bahamas Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union President Darrin Woods says staffers remained worried about the lack of airlift.

Fortunately, the airport’s runway was extended and given lights allowing night flights.

According to Woods there seems to be progress on the healthcare front.
