NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Coalition of Independents are weighing in on the recent shantytown Supreme Court ruling saying they believe an appeal is necessary.

Two top-ranking members of Coalition of Independents had a lot to say about the recent ruling on shantytowns. COI deputy leader is Maria Daxon.

Daxon asked what will the government do to address the issue.

The ruling handed down by Sir Ian Winder made way for only two structures on an Abaco shantytown to be demolished.

The government was looking to demolish over 200 homes in various shantytowns

COI Leader Lincoln Bain says it seems no one has the political will to handle the issue.

Bain went as far as to call the shantytown matter a serious humanitarian crisis.

Meanwhile, Daxon says the attorney general must appeal the ruling.

Bain reiterated, the strong stance on the matter is not through the eyes of discrimination against foreigners.
