NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Serial Groper Sidney Cooper is in protective custody just one week after National Security Minister Wayne Munroe announced his release.

Viral videos on social media show Cooper escorted from a house by officers as a crowd gathered around shouting threats and jeers.

Following this morning’s chaos, police released a statement saying there was an attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl who was walking on Fourth Street, The Grove.

They also made it clear Cooper is not a suspect in the crime.

But, that’s not what residents assumed and police say they approached his home armed with rocks, bottles, and cutlasses.

Police say Cooper was taken into protective custody.

Cooper’s 15 convictions for sexual offenses came over the course of 19 years starting in 2000.

Last week National Security Minister Wayne Munroe told reporters that Cooper has served his time and his release was only made public for residents to safeguard themselves.

Meanwhile, police say they are looking for the alleged would-be abductor.

He is described as tall, ball-headed, of a light complexion, and was wearing a blue hooded jacket.
