NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With an iPhone 7 and a 12-inch ring light, this influencer turned a daytime passion into a full time successful career.

How did she do it? Keep reading to find out.

Darea Rolle’s niche is all things beauty – hair, makeup and skincare. But she also works for brands with promotional campaigns and video production.

With a growing audience of more than 74,000 followers on TikTok, Darea has taken the platform by storm with her bubbly personality.

Some of her highest performing videos reached 8 million views and another 7 million.

But surprisingly, this wasn’t what she originally wanted to do with her life.

“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. During the pandemic when I was laid off from my job I saw Tiktok really emerge and I saw it as an opportunity to kind of mesh two things that I like. I decided that I like beauty because I am good at art and I like teaching. I just merged it into one, but I really like teaching”, Darea explained.

Darea worked tirelessly to create content while working full time. She pulled many all-nighters to remain consistent.

“So one thing that worked for me a lot is I had to discipline myself and manage my time. I was a bit more disciplined back then because I knew I had such a limited amount of time than I am now. But batch content, I batched everything. When I got off at five ,after I came from the gym I got home from seven to about one in the morning. I am making content”, she said.

However she says the hardest part of all of this is not the content, but building a community on social media.

“An engaged, loyal community to you; I think that is the hardest thing because that’s what really propels you in this industry. Consistency is what brought me, my community. People seeing me show up every single day, rain, sunshine or snow. Darea is out there, she’s putting out her content and she is happy doing it,” she told Our News.

She’s now working with big brands such as Walmart, NYX and more.

“I think I never really made content for The Bahamas and as I say that with no offense or anything but the inspiration that I took always came from an international level. In the beginning, it was a lot of hard work. It was a lot of forging relationships and taking free things to build credibility with brands”, she says.

As she reaped the benefits of her hard work, Darea began to weigh her options of remaining on her full time job or becoming a full time content creator.

“Looking at my career as a social media influence and my career there, which one not just made more [money], but which one I was happier doing. I did the same thing at my previous job, I was a content creator and I handled social media, it was good but it was also very limiting to me. But on the other hand when I’m in my social space that’s my world I had that creative freedom, the juices were flowing and I just had a passion for it,” Darea says.

And the support of family and friends made the decision even easier.

“When I told my parents they were supportive. My dad is a typical Bahamian and he just wanted to make sure I was ‘straight.’ Everyone around me was really really supportive because they saw my work ethic and they saw how much I put into it. It was an easy decision to make. It was a little unsettling on my part but everyone around me was like, DO IT.”

Now, Darea is using her platform to give back. In December 2022 she and her family distributed more than 100 Home cooked meals to communities in Nassau on Christmas for their annual Christmas feeding initiative.

She gives all the credit to God for her ability to give back.

For Darea, life is good, but this new journey requires more time, effort and discipline, she says.

Nevertheless, she encourages all aspiring content creators to just do it!

“And if you have a craft, if you have something you want to talk about, do it. Just because we are in The Bahamas and I know a lot of people feel like our geographical location is a limitation, you’re not limited. Your content can hit countries before you do.”
