Dozens of New Officers Set for Tourism Unit

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – More than 100 new recruits to join the ranks of the Royal Bahamas Police Force ahead of the highly anticipated opening of the $250 million Nassau Cruise Port.

Fernander noting that some 120 new recruits are currently in a five-month long training exercise. Once completed, half of those officers will be stationed downtown.

The top cop admits for years, the peddling of illegal drugs and the harassment of tourists downtown, have both been vexing issues.

Fernander says officers continue to do their jobs when it comes to enforcing the law, however, keeping those offenders behind bars, remains a challenge.

The force has made an agreement with the Port Authority and port security to ensure the safety of all.
