NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A high stakes court hearing which could determine whether Long Island MP Adrian Gibson will be tried on corruption allegations took place on Wednesday.

Gibson’s lawyer Murrio Ducille KC has argued that he won’t be able to have a fair trial if the prosecution’s key witness Alexandria Mackey doesn’t testify in person.

Ducille has also alleged that prosecutors haven’t fully disclosed their case against Gibson, prejudicing his defense.

Prosecutors have made an application for Mackey, who now lives in Florida, to testify via videolink.

The prosecution want the court to consider Mackey a vulnerable witness, whose testimony will be negatively impacted if she appears in person.

Mackey claims that she fears for her life after Gibson allegedly “choked her, smothered her and tried to gouge her eyes out.”

Additionally, Mackey is reportedly unable to travel as she awaits a determination on her application for residency.

Acting DPP Cordell Frazier described the application as an abuse of process as there has been no breach of his constitutional rights.

Frazier said Ducille had failed to establish any special circumstances to stay the proceedings.

She said that Gibson faces serious allegations of corruption and the matter should be heard in the interest of others.

Gibson and five others are charged with alleged corruption during his tenure as the executive chairman under the Free National Movement administration.

Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson has tentatively set her decision for Thursday at 11am.
