Earthcare Expresses More Concerns Over RCI Project

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Royal Caribbean International has announced public consultation on their planned Paradise Island Beach Club project will take place on June 8th in conjunction with The Bahamas Department of Environmental Planning and Protection. Local environmentalists are reacting.

A recent joint statement from Bahamian environmentalists Joe Darville and Gail Woon, is questioning Royal Caribbean International’s adherence to DEPP protocols.

The cruise line has promised public consultation to happen on June 8th, in conjunction with The Bahamas’ Department of Environmental Planning and Protection and said in their announcement of the public consultation that “once the public consultation period has closed – in line with the DEPP process – Royal Caribbean will publish a detailed environmental management plan.

But, Marine Biologist and Founder of Earthcare, Gail Woon, says………..

A month ago, on April 24th, Royal Caribbean International released the six focuses and key components of their environmental plan. However, but Woon says, that’s simply not enough.

In her joint statement with Darville, the duo says, “If Royal Caribbean doesn’t share their updated environmental documents soon, DEPP should strongly consider postponing the public consultation.”
